Un-bear-able News

Among this weekends activites (Halo, Omega, and Apex with Raven, Fernando and Ken), on Friday Fernando introduced me to a "bear" bar- Titan (above Dakota Cowgirl on 14th St) has a very packed "bear" night.
I'm telling you- going to a bear bar is the best diet ever. I've never felt younger, skinnier, or smoother. But all this bear stuff reminded me of a hilarious news story I read on Friday about a real bear's antics in Lake Tahoe...
Read the full news story here
"A bear cub drew a crowd of spectators at a Lake Tahoe neighborhood as it munched on barbecue-chicken-and-jalapeno pizza in the back seat of a vintage red Buick convertible. It also apparently washed it down with a swig of a Jack Daniel's mixer, some vodka, and a beer taken from a cooler, the vehicle's owner said."

Hey Baby, it's the 4th of July!

Happy 4th... (sometimes though I wish we'd stayed with Great Britain, I prefer Queen Elizabeth to Bush). It's beena great long weekend so far. Went to Cobalt last night with Fernando and Stephen (and some other bars too). My jaw hurts a little less than it did on Friday, I'm still having issues chewing and biting on hard foods.
AND, Margo's birthday party on Saturday was a blast!!!
Look at the fabulous pictures from the Sunset Blvd Birthday Bash!

My Anderson Cooper Shrine

With all this potential flooding, I am kind of dissapointed now that everything seems to be alright. I was hoping maybe Anderson Cooper could take some time away from covering the Katrina disaster, and come to DC.
I, of course being the good samaritan, could offer him a place to stay...my bedroom has a good view of the city. Sigh...
And now an obligatory picture of him

Drowned World

Damn, it really does feel like we're all going to float away. Well, all the little people will, I will be safe in my tower on the hill overlooking the rest of the city (and to think I bitched about having to walk uphill). I really do love a good thunderstorm, and we've had 4 straight days of it. Curled up, watching a storm, in bed with a significant other- always nice. And last night's storm was something straight out of the movies! Today along P st between 17th & 18th there was a HUGE tree blocking the entire street, and there's been flooding of subway stations. It's not even hurricane season yet!!

I had a great weekend, mostly filled with spending time with Stephen, I also got to go drinking with Raven and Ken. Speaking of fun times, I have 4 day weekend coming up, AND I'd like to wish Margo an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I look forward to your party, dear, it will be quite a "production" ;)

A Week in the Life of Adam

In World Cup news (yes, it's pretty much the only sports thing I get into) Ghana defeated the Untied States today. Which is sad for me mainly because I won't get to see super-hottie Carlos Bocanegra. Oh, I am so transparent sometimes.

Tuesday night I was in rare form as I went with certain two friends/coworkers to Cobalt for their 80's night party. I accidently found myself wasted, it was absolutely embarrasing. Namely because I managed to loose my shirt on the dancefloor (fortunately I still had my over-shirt to wear home.) Ugh, Stephen made some crack about how it was probably swiped by some dirty old man who's getting his rocks off with it. And waking up to a trashed apartment (I have no idea what I was doing when I got home- it looks like I was trying to cook). The whole day at work I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. And worse, two gay guys who work downstairs recognized me from the night before. Ohhhhh the shame!

I'm feeling way better today, though the evil two-some is trying to convice me to come with them to Apex tonight. But first we are going to ckeck out some new gay bar called Sky Bar in the Beacon Hotel on 17th Street. I'll give you the scoop once I check it out!

Burnt to a Crisp

Summer seems to officialy be here, which in Washington means heat and humidity. Friday (16th)after my last blog entry, I left work early (as if I had been working at all... I popped in for a whole hour) and met a friend for dinner at Churreria Madrid, in my neighborhood. The food was, as always, great. If you live in the region and haven't visited this little place, do it! (Champlain St. & Columbia NW). Actually it was this guy Andy I made friends with at Omega last Sunday after Pride. He convinced me to finally watch the movie "Trans-America" which was actually really good and very funny!
Saturday I spent with Steven, and we made a trip to Old Town Alexandria, which I hadn't been to in a long time, at least during the day. I love the riverfront area, al the neat little shops...I could see myself living in Old Town. We had a great time shopping and having dinner together, and just strolling along the river.
Sunday I went to Margo's for brunch, and (a repeat of Friday) I sat by the pool drinking and having a great time. Except I wanted to get rid of my winter whiteness, and today I'm paying the price: I got more burn than brown.

Fabulous Friday!

Happy end of the week to all... I'm a little tipsy as I write this. Where do I start... first, check out Margo's fabulous photos from her New York trip. What a fun place to visit! (I could never live there because it's kinda dirty, skanky, and overhyped, but a great place to weekend). It looked like Margo and Fred had such a good time, I'm envious!
In other news, the date is set on my braces. Two Fridays from now, June 30th. It makes me nervous and excited all at the same time, especially since very few people actually know about it, so it will be a big surprise.
Today after my morning appointment, I hung out with certain two fabulous coworkers of mine at a certain Bruce's Kalorama estate, sitting by the pool, swimming and drinking. Er, I mean, my appointment lasted all afternoon cough, cough =)

Blogging Pays Off!

Well, sort of. My blogging "skillz" have put me in charge of my organization's new blog, which you can check out here:

EDN Blog!

In other news, I have another orthodontic appointment this week, where I may or may not have "spacers" put in my back molars to make room for the brace brackets. Oh yes, I forgot to add that, yes, I am getting braces for sure (cermamic clear ones), and that the spacers are supposed to be the most painful part. I'm hoping I might not need them. I've written about how much I hate going to the doctor, but I find myself getting just as nervous at the dentist or orthodontists too. Just the sound of the drill brings me back to childhood visits where "this won't hurt a bit..."
Related to this, I am binging on all sorts of things that will be forbidden to me... tortilla chips, sticky candy and gum, etc.

Happy Pride!!

First, I hope everybody had a safe, fun, and wonderful Pride! I know I did...

Among the activities included the parade on Saturday, Halo, The Fab Lounge, Noche de Fuego at Cada Vez (which I am really growing fond of) among other places. The street festival on sunday was a lot of fun, despite the Twilight-Zone-ish running into or seeing to almost every single man I've dated in Washington. Maybe I need to move to another city and start afresh.
Meanwhile in New York City...

Personal Penguin

This link is too cute, a Penguin Message Generator. You type in your message and the penguin does the rest!

This weekend a person from my past, PJ, came to DC from Richmond where he's living to celebrate his birthday. Now, things between us have been cool, but last year I extended the olive branch and we've been on good terms since. It was good to hang out with him Saturday, and there was no wierdness ora anything, we can be friends, and I like that. If only all relationships ended up that smoothly.

With Margo, Marc, and Fred, I saw X Men 3 at the theater in Chinatown. Wolverine is pure male hotness. I liked it, the movie that is. Afterwards we had tapas dinner at La Tasca across the street (peach sanrgia!). Meeting up with PJ and his friend Chris we went to Halo.... long abbreviated story we wound up at the gay strip bar WET. It was a fun, if very late, night. I love coming home to the paper delivery guy, LOL.

It's Fabu-lash!

Last night with some friends I ventured to a new gay establishment (part of my quest to explore new places) called The Fab Lounge.
It was fabulous, but in a low-key way. The space, located at Connecitcut and Florida Ave. NW is a much-needed gay presence in North Dupont. It's very spacious and has comfy chairs and tables in addition to a nice bar area. It's only been open 2 months, but I am spreadigng the word, I think it has great potential and hopefully will attract more young people (unlike, say, some other bars that seem to attract the old and tired).
We also ventured into the 18th & U Duplex, which is very happening on a Thursday night for some reason. It has it's share of older men, but it's typically the buff older "daddy" types as opposed to the trolls. Being so packed, we then ventured down the street to the so-called "gay bar" Larry's Lounge. Not my favorite place, but it had some seating available. I just am not sure how they get away with advertising themselves as a gay bar, when out of a packed room, we were the only gay people to be seen. Not highly reccomended.
So recap: Larry's Lounge, two thumbs down. Duplex, two thumbs up (for Thursday at least). The Fab Lounge, two thumbs up.

Last week while walking home from work a car skidding in front of me... the window of the BMW rolled down... it was Casey, offering me a ride home from work. And I got in and accepted the ride. I know, I know. (and now that Casey has a car, I offer this as a public service announcement to pedestrians everywhere) I suppose it's better than what other exes spend their time doing...

Saturday was the Strawberry Fetsival out in the middle of somewhere in the Blue Ridge mountains. It was such a beautiful weekend, and I had four days off in a row (even if I spent half of Friday in an orthodontic office). The Strawberry Festival was so-so (there being a noticeable lack of the actual berries) so afterwards Stephen, myself, Margo & Fred went to the nearby wineries- Naked Mountain and Piedmont wineries. I think Piedmont was the winner that day, a beautfil vineyard, and wines of all types (including a delicious raspeberry and peach).
It was a great Memorial Day weekend spent with Stephen & friends. Here's to summer!

Boat Races & Greek Festival

It was a wonderful weekend that ended all too soon. Friday night I did go to see "The Da Vinci Code" with Stephen. I know the critics really ripped it a new asshole, but I didn't think it was all that bad. I can't stand Tom Hanks, he is far too over-exposed, but aside from that it wasn't bad. Not great cinema, but not awful. And as far as the controversy, I really don't see it. I could see how a devout Catholic might take it the wrong way, but I felt it could have been a lot more controversial, but it was rather lame.
Saturday I went to the dragon boat races on the Potomac with friends. The boats were pretty cool (pics can be seen here). After that we went to the annual Greek Festival at St. Sophia's. Good food, and good wine, it was a prefect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Sunday I was so lazy, but I did end up watching "Lucky Number Slevin." I really like this movie! It hasn't really gotten that much publicity despite having a major cast. I won't spoil it, but it is darkly comedic and violent. And I love Josh Hartnett. He is just oh-so-cute in everything he does.

Up Your Nose!

One thing I've noticed about my job is it's either extremely hectic or very slow. Keep in mind the weather can change from one hour to the next. This morning was a flurry of mania (those who have met our esteemed president know exactly what I'm talking about) and now it's eerily quiet and I am bored enough to post to the blog.

It's been a long week, and I started to get a cold, but I nipped it in the bud. Vitamin C, Odwalla juices, and a little something I leanred from a girl that works at Soho. Lest I gross you out, bear with me. It's called "nasal irrigation" and when I first heard about it from the girl, I was like "Uh, I don't know about that," but having suffered through congested sinuses all week, I finally thought, what the hell? Basically you flush out your sinuses with warm saline water. Sounds weird, but I swear I feel SO much better! I can breathe clearer that I have in ages. It flushed out all the congestion. So, I guess I've been converted, though it was definately a strange experience.

Fortunately that was NOT the highlight of this week's excitement. On Tuesday Stephen and myself joined Fred & Margo, and Marc for a wonderful dinner and dessert at Bistrot du Coin. I think we've found a new favorite restaurant! Everything there is excellent (I had an amazing salmon in champagne creme sauce served over a ratatouille (see recipe). Tonight I am going with Stephen to see the premiere of "The Da Vinci Code," I am not sure if it will be good or not but we'll see. Also on the menu for Saturday/Sunday: there is a dragon boat race at the boathouse in Georgetown (the one where G-town meets Rock Creek) and there's also a Greek Festival that's lots of fun, at St. Sophia's on Mass. Ave NW.

每日智慧

Last night was an anniversary of sorts for Stephen and I. I didn't even realize it until the last minute. He told me he was coming back Tuesday from New Jersey, but surpised me and came back early yesterday, because it was a special occasion. After racking my brain I realized, that yes, it marks an official first month of being together. He's so sneaky... and charming too... he swept me off my feet slow dancing in the middle of a bar. We must have looked funny (or drunk) but it's one of those situation where you don't care who's watching or what they think.

One thing I forgot to mention in my last entry was part of my quest to find nicer, newer, and classier gay establishments to hang out at. And this one is very close to my apartment. It's called Chloe (2473 18th St. NW) and it's located above the Saki restaurnt next to Asylum club in Adams Morgan. From the outside it looks tiny, but it own the whole two floors upstairs which has been converted into a very modern and spacious dancefloor. I think this place ranks up there with Cobalt and Apex, and I expect good things from it in the future. At the moment, it's gay party is called "Swim" and happens every Sunday night (taking the place of Lizard Lounge).

And finally, it appears there's more bizarre news from the Arctic regarding polar bears. Click here to read about the polar bear/grizzly bear offspring that was found in Canada. Global warming is getting weirder and weirder.

Seagulled!

New Trends
Fresh from the U.K.!
According to our friends at Popbitch:
"...To be too cool for school these days you have to do the Seagull. In schools all over London, apparently, break-times are seeing boys running into the bogs to masturbate furiously, collect their jizz in the palms of their hands, then go out and find a younger kid.... then slap them in the face while shouting "SEAGULL!"
Try it in the office when you're bored."
-A Google search of "seagulled" revealed that, yes, this does seem to exist.

Trend Graveyard

The Pirate Look
Will somebody PLEASE tell me why all the hipster/indie rockers are doing the Molly-Ringwald-meets-Blackbeard-the-Pirate look?? Stop it. Stop rolling one pant leg up when riding your crappy beat-up bicycle (WHY do they do that? Is there an actual reason?) Stop wearing tight striped clothing reminicent of a Russian sailor's uniform. I've seen this look from Logan Circle to the East Village in NYC, and it's NOT cool unless you're working at Pirates of the Carribean at Disney.
So what have we learned today boys & girls?

So much has been happening, so little time to report. First, Happy Birthday to Stephen who turned 27 on Monday! We celebrated over dinner, and drinks Monday with some of his friends.
In recap I realize I've left some details out of the last few weeks. First, I had a very interesting dinner with a certain Bruce (who used to date my boss), preceded by drinks at Halo. Normally I try to stay out of these drama-pots... oh who am I kidding, I love drama!

Let's see... I also had dinner with Ken, who I hadn't seen in ages. Saturday I went to the herb/plant festival at the National Cathedral with Margo, that was a lot of fun. I love the inside of the chuch too (staunch Athiest as I am, it is a beautiful building). My apartment is already becoming The Garden of Eden I have so many plants, so I limited myself to only buying one. We visited our friend Marc at his home recovering from surgery, it was good to see him and Jaymie. Then we had a wonderful dinner at Bistrot du Coin, their duck was amazing!

Reader Awards
It's time to warmly reward my favorite long-time readers (at least the ones I know about via comments). So for May my award is tied between Margo and Brian. You know who you are. Thanks for your continued readership!
I would add a dishonerable mention towards certain people who continue to read this and are "sour grapes," but they too know who they are.
There's no prize (I'm too cheap) but I'll buy you a drink at Halo!

An Apple a Day...

The Braces Issue:

Well I have decided to do something I've been thinking about for awhile, I am getting work on my teeth. Not that my teeth are especially bad, but there's room for improvement. And money can fix anything genetics didn't give you.
So I have been researching every orthodontist in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, trying to find the best place. Of course my insurance won't cover cosmetic stuff like this, so while price isn't exactly an issue, the less on braces, the more money for summer vacation! I must be a glutton for punishment... I HATE going to doctors and dentists. They are home of the world's most famous lie: "Relax, this won't hurt a bit..."
First, a lot of places now do the Invisalign retainers of infomercial fame. They seem painless, but do they really work?? I mean, sure they sound a whole lot better than having metal and wires in your mouth for a year or two. Braces at 15,ok, but at 25, I'm not so sure that's the look I'm going for (I attract enough old men as it is).
SO, any readers have positive experiences or horror stories to share? Any reccomendations on what to get or where to go?
