My Sap is Rising

So Spring is here, and I've been seeing a great guy the past few weeks. I randomly met him at the Caribou Coffee on 14th & Rhode Island Ave. His names Stephen, ( NO, hold the "Adam & Steve" jokes )he's 27, and he's very handsome.
We've been going out and having fun with eachother for sometime now, but I didn't want to spill the beans on my blog until it amounted to anything. I'm still not sure if he's going to know about this blog or not, given what happened with the last guy that unfortunately joined Adam's Hall of Dictator Ex-es.

Stephen is intelligent, nice, and has classy, intelligent friends who can exist outside of the trashy bars. I have a feeling we're going to continue having fun.
Well, it's been a fun yet busy week in the wake of a certain environmental holiday. My life is oh so much easier now (with a few exceptions). And there's something about Spring that really does, er, make one's sap rise. I don't know what it is.

New York, Redux

What happens when you have a vegan granola hippy, a Ukrainian girl, and a fabulous gay man on a trip to another city together?

Well, for a business trip next week I will be in New York City again, for three days. I'll have plenty of "me time" hopefully to do what I want - I plan on ditching the co-workers early. I will be staying in a fab hotel in Midtown near 5th Ave.

And this time I won't have the boring baggage I had with me the last time.

My Liver Hurts

Here's the re-cap, you knew you were waiting for it:
The Mother Land...
So Friday evening after work I went with a co-worker and some friends to Russia House, north of Dupont Circle. The food is unique (I mean, when was the last time you went out for Russian?) the drinks were great, and the ambiance was very... Moscow mafia. I do reccomend it for the experience, even if it is a bit over-pricey.

Birthday Drinking Rehearsal
Saturday I went out with a friend who offered to take me anywhere I wanted to go, in exchange for missing my birthday next week. Now you know those are the "famous last words." So we went for dinner at Banana Cafe in Capitol Hill. Afterwards I went for more drinks at Halo though he wasn't too crazy about the whole non-smoking thing. Speaking of which, this smoking ban...don't get me started. So he dragged me into the Funeral Parlour because he could smoke there. Of course I was surrounded by people I didn't want to see (ex. Mussolini, not at an AA meeting) so I didn't even finish my first drink before we went over to Cobalt. I have mixed feelings about the place, but that was a good night. I ran into a peaceful ex, Sergei, (note his lack of a dictator's name) and we had a great time.

Easy Like Sunday Morning
So after getting home late, I woke up surprisingly well, and after coffee, I spent the afternoon checking out the National Museum of the American Indian. While some of the exhibits seemed a bit off, overall the architecture of the building is very interesting. It's worth a visit just to say you went. Margo, Fred, & myself returned to Singapore Bistro (formerly Cafe Asia) for dinner. A new favorite place to add to my list.

Don't Dance with Daddies
So when I got home from dinner, Fernando texted me to go get drinks, so we went to Halo. By the way, new favorite drink, the pineapple mojito (it just keeps getting better every visit!). We realized it was the final night of Lizard Lounge, closing due in part to the stupid smoking ban. Lizard Lounge, held at 1223 Conn. Ave NW, was a gay Sunday night dance party that had lasted 7 years. It will be missed!
So I learned some final lessons that night from the Lizard... don't dance with daddies unless you're prepared to go home with them. It's a long story, but thanks Fernando for abandoning me to them, I'll remember that. =)
Monday morning hurt.
But at least my laptop has been repaired and I had a lunch date with that guy in building...

Forget about Jesus...

Here it is again, my birthday!

Unfortunately, April 16th is Easter Sunday this year (go figure some religious figure would dare to upstage ME and MY DAY!!)

So, Saturday, April 15th will be the day of actual festivities.
While much of the planning has yet to be done, I will be having dinner at Lauriol Plaza ( 1835 18th St NW, Wash. DC) at time TBA. What follows afterwards is anyone's guess. I'm sure it will involve alcohol, dancing, and debauchery.

Spring Chicken!

The warm(er) weather is finally here! My recap of the week: Wednesday I went with Fernando and some friends of his to Meskerem in Adams Morgan. I'm normally not totally big on Ethiopian cusine, but this place is awesome! Everybody liked everything! And I love how Ethiopian food is so communal and shared. Afterwards I went out for drinks. I like random Wednesdays.
HALO - Thursday, I met Margo, Fred, and Fernando for drinks at Halo (1435 P St. NW). I know I keep doing plugs for Halo, but I can't express how happy I am to have a classier bar East of Dupont Circle. If you haven't gone here, do so. It's smoke-free, amazing drinks. So anyway, everytime I go I keep discovering new and inovative drinks you can't find at other places. Among my new favorites: the mango-tini, Hypnotiq Breeze, raspberry mojitos, the "angel fruit" martini.
Anyway after drinks we had dinner at Dakota Cowgirl, which I like better than it's previous incarnation, Hamburger Mary's.
Friday I had a date with this really wonderful guy. He, having run a company that restores historic houses, has a fascinating knowledge of architecture, on top of being an all-round sweet and intelligent guy. We had dinner and drinks at Rosemary's Thyme...
The next morning after a wonderful night we had breakfast at Cosi before going our separate ways... I had a date with Tai-Shan the panda.

Damn him for being so cute! Margo, Fred, and myself were able to catch him outside at play with his mother. I love the zoo, and being so close to it. Went shopping afterwards at Pentagon Row, got some cute new sandals, had lunch at Thaiphoon.
Sunday I sunned in the Circle, and went on a goose-chase of tattoo parlours, as Fernando was looking to get his nips re-pierced. Renting a Mini Cooper from Zipcar, we went to a party in Takoma Park, saw a friend of his who's a great singer perform

Can someone tell me, though, what's up with all the lesbians living in Takoma Park?

Give Me My Change!

Well... that video was on my Myspace profile for a while, but it still brings a nasty smile to my face, so I'm posting it here.
Let's see, what else is new. I think Halo is our new favorite bar; everyone always has a good time there, and the guys are so pretty. Even the older guys are somehow more, how shall I say, more polished. I like older guys, but I demand a certain level of sophistication.
Sunday I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival, and was a bit dissapointed by the lack of actual blossoms. I'm sure the weird weather has something to do with it; hopefully next week will be better. One thing I learned, tourists are still just as annoying as ever. Ugh.
Went shopping with Margo, got a steal (literally: the woman didn't ring up one of my items) er, bargain let's say. Found perfect parking all day, had coffee at Carobou Coffee. Last night went to Thai Chef in Dupont. I had an awesome dish I'd never tried before, some shrip and noodle thing baked in a clay pot. Afterwards my friend and I went to the Leather Rack, because a boy can never have too many supplies. And then I went to Kramer's Books because I wanted to pick up a book I saw in the Post's book review on Sunday, called "Enrique's Journey." I'm only 40 pages into it, but it's extremely well-written and intriguing.

A Tale of Tulips

With Spring in the air, it's the season of my favorite flower, the tulip. They've always been my favortite... in fact I really don't care much for flowers, but I've always been intrigued by these bulbs. And more, there's a very interesting history behind them! From the courts of Turkey to the Netherlands and the sill-life paintings of the Dutch Masters, they've had an interesting journey.
The History of Tulips

Can't say you never learned anything at Adam's Deep Blog. In other news, I'm still a little hungover from going to Apex last night - I really like Apex, it has a younger prettier crowd than some other places, I need to start going there again more often. And I'm going back out to Halo tonight.. no rest for the wicked.

Here We Go Again...

It snowed Tuesday night when I was walking back home around 11 pm. How weird is that? Well the weather seems to be matching reality in terms of weirdness. It was Tuesday night when, getting home from work, I got a call from Casey ("Hitler", if that label still applies) coming over from his place (remembering he now only lives 3 blocks from me) to come over and talk. Oh... the whole thing is so surreal. I never imagine I'd be quasi-friends with him. I really don't know what to make of it.

And last night I went on a quasi-date, or rather a date-type thing that I apparently was not aware was a date. In other words, I met this guy platonically, but he made it rather obvious he wanted something more, and it caught me a little off guard. And next week I am meeting two other guys. One works in my office building, a South African man who approached me and asked me out, his treat, once he got back from a trip. And there's another guy I met who lives on Capital Hill, seems really interesting, so we shall see. Good things always come in three.

St. Pattys and the Aftermath

Happy Vernal Equinox (first day of Spring)

I had a wonderful weekend! I'm still kind of shocked at the response I'm getting from friends about the posting below. It's good to know lots of people have my back. Anyway... Friday I had the pleasure of going to Capital Hill to kick off celebrating St. Patrick's Day. A group of friends and myself started off with dinner at Banana Cafe on 8th St. SE, I had been there for drinks, but never just food. WOW, it was absolutely amazing. I know Carribbean food on St. Patty's made seem like sacrilage to some, but the stuffed plantains and Banana margaritas were really good (yes, I know, a little heavy on the bananas). Everyone's food was really good, so I highly reccomend it. Other places hit up that evening include Finn McCools (because we HAD to go to an Irish pub, of course), Remmington's, Green Lantern... a strange melange of bars. Cuban bar, Irish pub, gay cowboy bar, leather bar... very weird night.

It's safe to say we all had way to many drinks that night, so any ambitions for the next day had to be put on hold. I was still proud of myself for hanging my framed photographs from Europe on my walls, a little project I'd been putting off, and some other home-improvementy things. I went out Saturday night, and found myself getting tipsy really easy, like after 3 drinks (compared to say, the 20 the night before which I held like a champ).

I can't believe it's been SO cold, after that false-Spring weekend before when I was sitting in Dupont Circle, wearing shorts, sunning myself. And now it may snow!

Aint No Hollaback Girrrrl

Ok I hate to have to beat this dead horse more than necessary: it's not even fun anymore. But my ex Mussolini (as I have decided to dub Phil) has this friend. And this friend gives me the "Evil Eye" everytime he sees me at the club, or on 17th Street.
Listen: I don't know what that washed-up has-been leftovers heard from Mussolini, but he needs to get the fuck over it. Stop giving me the stink-eye, cause you look older and more bitter than you already are. It's obvious you're just gritting your teeth because one of us is young, cute, and fine as hell... and it's NOT YOU!

*POST SCRIPT* To make things even more amusing, read Phil's friend Dave's comments by clicking the comments button. Ironically, the above post was not about Dave. I responded to his assinine comment... maybe I'm too nice sometimes.

Springtime for Hitler

Greetings! it's been so beautiful lately I just haven't had time to update. I'm entitling this entry what I have, because my ex, who I always referred to as the Nazi dictator, has slowly but surely shown a different side of himself. He's matured, he's gotten help, he's changed. I'm still wary around him, but this week I have seen him a couple of times and it's been...dare I say, pleasant?

Anyway, I went out Tuesday night to Halo, went out again Wednesday and Thrusday. Friday it was absolutely beautiful outside. I had a wonderful time with a huge group of people, co-workers, Maile, Fred & Margo, Steve, Dafna... started off at Buffalo, moved on to mango margaritas and Mexican food on 17th - one of the great pleasures of warmer weather is sitting outside eating and driking at night.

Saturday was also a very pleasant day... I spent the day reading and sunning in Dupont Circle park, enjoying the sun, shirtless boys, and being lazy not thinking about anything. I ran into Casey (Hitler) and another old face while walking up 17th Street. They were having afternoon drinks at Trio's Fox and Hound so I joined them for an afternoon buzz. He was, suprisingly, quite pleasant and mature. I also hung out with Ken that night. Sunday I met up with Margo & Fred and we went to see the orchid exhibit at the National Botanical Gardens, which was absolutely beautiful.

What's Cookin'?

So tonight I have been in Martha Stewart Mode, cooking up a storm, mainly for my office potluck lunch tomorrow, for which I went to my French cookbook for this trusted favorite, Quiche Alsacienne (Alsacian Style Quiche). It's easy to make and tastes orgasmic.

Quiche Alsacienne:

You'll need:
1-2 tablespoons butter
2 cups sliced leeks (about 2 leeks)
1 9-inch frozen pie crust, thawed (unless you have time to make one from scratch)
1 cup grated Swiss and/or Gruyere cheese
1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
1 tablespoon flour
4 eggs
1 3/4 cups heavy creme
Fresh ground pepper & salt.

Preheat oven to 450. Melt butter in a skillet and saute the leeks (be sure to wash them thouroughly... leeks are notorious for having dirt in them) until tender. Spread evenly over the bottom of the pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan.
In a bowl, toss together the cheeses and the flour. Spread this over the leeks.
In another bowl, beat together the heavy creme and the eggs. Add the salt & pepper to this, and pour over the cheese layer.
Bake 15 minutes. Reduce heat after to 325, and continue baking for 30 mins, until the crust is browned and you can stick a fork in the center of the quiche, and it comes out clean (texture should be light and fluffy).

The Taxman Cometh (he gets a BJ this year!)

Well I did my taxes this weekend. I must be the only person who actually looks forward to doing taxes.
Listen, if Uncle Sam takes joy in taking my money, I can take equal joy taking some of the money back into my wallet, where it rightfully belongs.
Between the District of Columbia and my Federal taxes, this year's return is going to be NICE!

In With a Lion...

Welcome to March, may it be a less drama-filled month than Febru-scary was. There were some developments in my life.. Sunday night I went out with Fernando and Heather again, and yes, we wound up at "the Funeral Parlour" JR's (I really, really, really, need to start steering them away from that place).
SO I ran into someone unexpectedly (and oddly, not working as usual for Sunday nights). It did make me feel somewhat better to say some things I wanted to say. What's funny is how I originally envisioned such a meeting (flying barstools, broken beer bottles), vs. how it really happened. I can honestly say I am not angry anymore, I feel closure now (it's what I deserve, and I have as much as I'll get).

In other news, there isn't too much. I went out Tuesday night for Mardi Gras/Retro Night at Cobalt, which was a lot of fun.

Friday night, tomorrow, I have a date. Not saying anything will come of it one way or the other, but I definately am glad to be moving on and meeting other guys. Still not sure where to have dinner!

Today's Affirmation:

"I'm not a concept. Too many guys think I'm a concept or I complete them or I'm going to make them alive, but I'm just a fucked up [boy] who is looking for my own peace of mind. Don't assign me yours. Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating. "

-Clementine, "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

Self-editing

For personal reasons, I've deleted some of the more bitchy and vindictive things I've posted in the past few weeks. I know I'm usually not one to self-censor: even if I regret it later, at the time I wrote it, those were my true feelings. Of course, we all have our moments of anger and irrationality (though getting dumped right before Valentine's Day is arguably cause for insanity).
